Stephanie is synonymous with productive.

This week has been really rewarding for me. I switched over to a new sketchbook because my old sketchbook was getting too messy. And as I transferred my old works into my new sketchbook, I was reminded of all the old patterns I used to love. I think that sparked creativity in me and I've just been overflowing with ideas. At the peak of my busy-ness, I was working on five tiles at once. And I'm really excited to show you all that I've created in the past week.

If you're a follower on my Instagram (@havepen_willdraw), you'd have seen this tile already.
I'm trying new things with Hollibaugh. Still haven't decided whether I should add shading on the Hollibaugh pattern itself, or leave it as it is. Any thoughts on that?

I completely forgot about "Rixty"... I think I'm going to be adding it to my tiles more often.

Playing around with lines, and also "African Artist".

"African Artist" was a new pattern I learnt recently, and to get a feel of it, I drew it on a Bijou tile. And the first time I drew it.... It didn't turn out quite right. I worked with it, though.... And then did another tile while looking at the step-outs properly.
Top: The not-quite-right, but still nice looking tile.
Bottom: "African Artist".

  Tiles for Joey's Challenge:
"Striping" is a wonderful pattern to work with.
I liked the pattern so much that I decided to do one on a black Zentangle tile.

And this is how it turned out.

Which do you like better?

Zentangle Challenges

I finished the Renaissance tile, but now very little of the original tile colour peeks through......
Note to self: Less is more.

Rosewood monotangle for Joey's challenge.

Tri-Bee monotangle of its many variations.
I didn't add shading to this tile cause it was getting too busy.
Tri-Bee is a very fun pattern, though.

And a last tile in just black and white.

You have to think outside the border.

Stephanie says: I hope you guys enjoyed the previous post and seeing what my mum had created in the last week. I, too, have been over-flowing with creativity. Let's start of with some Zendalas, shall we?
A little empty in the middle, eh?

Fixed it...?
I was quite sad that I had made the patterns in the triangles too busy, so I didn't think I could add anything to the black areas.... If I re-do this Zendala, I'd definitely do it in a different way.

Fun with "Hollibaugh".
There is "Sand Swirl" and "Diva Dance" and "Groovy".
And if I had to tell you; the reason why Diva Dance sort of took up one of the space in Groovy was because I had an "oops moment" and had drawn the lines in that segment wrongly, so I just decided to change it to swirls that resembled "Diva Dance".
I actually liked it better after. Remember, there are no mistakes in Zentangle®. Only opportunities. ^-^

Up next, new experiments with black Zendala tiles... (You have to think outside the border, sometimes, you know.)
Sparkly~

Completely filled in.

In case you were wondering, I'm using Uni-ball's Signo 0.8 in Silver and Sparkling.
They're readily available in Singapore at Popular, and I feel the Silver ink looks more opaque and flows more smoothly than any white ink pen in the market.

  Finally, some works-in-progress:
A Renaissance tile that I'm probably going to end up colouring with coloured pencils, and an Apprentice tile. Those little triangles on the Apprentice tile took me forever to finish..... Next time I'd just fill them completely in black then add the white lines using Uni-ball's Signo Broad in White. Would have been much quicker that way.

And~ If you're following me on Instagram (@havepen_willdraw), you'd have seen an edited version of this picture.
It's details of a new drawing I'm working on, and I'm so very excited to show the full drawing to you soon. Until then, lots of "Tipple" to fill in.

these shoes were made for walking

Stephanie says: I've realised that my mother, Joni Toh, has started to do a lot more Zentangle projects. And over the course of the last couple of weeks, I've been posting more and more of her works on my blog. As such, I think it's only fair to add her as an author to this blog so that she can post things with her name alongside each post. Here's what she has been up to for the last week...

Experimenting with "Umble".

"Ing" surrounded by "Hypnotic".

If you follow me on Instagram @hoongjoni, you'll have seen the new pair of Toms that I just finished. These are different in design from the ones that I had previously made.

Lastly, I've begun a new series of paintings. This was the first one:
Late night picture, lit up by a standing lamp... Which explains the cold shadows in the picture.
Stephanie said to take a picture of the work in progress to post it on this blog.

And the finished piece!

Lots of ideas flowed around my head while I was going to sleep last night. I'm very motivated for my next project. I've already started on a new canvas this morning. I can't wait to show you guys the end result.

It's always good to try new things.

If you were interested in this template, you can find it on thebrightowl's blog.
It is her Zendala Dare #6.
(Links are clickable and lead to her blog and the mentioned dare post, respectively.)

I decided that I wouldn't follow the template exactly this time.
I was a little timid, though. Small steps.

It was great fun, and so for my next tile, I decided to go completely outside the box:
I drew a nice string to separate the tile into two large sections, and one small (sort of eye-shaped) section.
And then I just filled in those sections with tangle patterns that I liked.

Here's another.
I've been watching "Legend of Korra", and this tile was inspired by water-bending.

My mum (Joni) also did a tile too. This one is the original Zentangle® tile.
I think her lines are getting cleaner.
Well. I hope you liked all the pretty things we made this week. ^-^

Joni is more of a craft-y person...

Joni's my mum, if you didn't know already. I've been encouraging her to do more Zentangle-inspired projects, and last week, she really took that advice to heart. Here are some of the wonderful things she created.

First up, a little wooden box. It's much like the other more rectangular wooden box she finished that other time.
This one has a pull-out drawer instead of a cover.

I like this side of the box. The pattern is really neat.

She also designed on these Toms shoes:

A little close-up details...
I just found a new fabric pen by Sharpie, and we have another pair of Toms. So I think you'll be seeing another shoe project soon. ^-^
Last but not least, a pouch she sewed by herself and then decided to tangle all over.
You might have seen this over on my Instagram (@havepen_willdraw)

Here's the other side of the pouch.

And~ That's about it. I hope you enjoyed seeing all of the projects. Let us know which one you liked best in the comments section below.
