colours speak all languages

I'm the admin of the Travelling Tangles Project on Facebook where lots of artists swap their beautiful works with one another. And for this week of Diva's challenge, I thought I might start a tile to swap with someone who comes visit my blog. If you'd like, I can send it to you and you can complete it. You'll send me a half-completed tile and I'll complete it, too. If you're interested in that, let me know in the comments section below!

If you'd like to see what other artists have created for the Travelling Tangles Project, visit this link.

Featuring Paradox in a Tripoli grid.

I recently started doing these little art works. They were done as a little fun side-project. The colours were added with Peerless watercolours. Some tangles were too small and my waterbrush was too big, so I'm going to need to "save the whites" with my Uni-ball Signo white pen. hahaha

Here's my Tanglelendar for September so far:  (I'm a little behind schedule... Time flies by so quickly, doesn't it?!
Want to start your very own Tanglelendar too? Here's where you can download the blank templates for FREE: linky link right here. You're welcome. ^-^   I really need to start creating pages for 2017 soon, though....

I also recently posted a video tutorial on how to draw Meer as a border.

I've been planning on what I'm going to teach next month for my Zentangle classes... It's exams period so Joni and I think there's going to be a drop in how many students we have. :(  But then the school holidays period will arrive and we will be drowned in so much work it'd be hard to catch a breath. That's life, isn't it? Either you're bored out of your mind, or you're so busy you can't breathe. hahaha. I take it to stride.

And lastly, here are some ATCs I made to sell when we hold workshops. The purple one is completed. I've titled it "Memories". The second one still needs shading, and the last one needs its background filled in. The colours were added with Peerless watercolours.

Thank you so much for dropping by. I hope you leave a little more inspired than when you first arrived. See you next week!

planning to plan

I'm queen of starting-new-projects-but-never-getting-around-to-completing-them... So there's not as many completed projects for you to see this week as I would have liked. But some is better than none, eh?

My tile for last week's It's a String Thing challenge:
Zinger plus Pixioze.

Some colourful tiles for the Travelling Tangles Project:

And some ATCs that I want to swap with others. The green one is going to someone living in California. And as of now, the purple one is still available. Let me know if you'd like to swap an ATC with me. :)

An update of my June Tanglelendar. This month, I'm trying to focus on official Zentangle® patterns.

And lastly, here's a tile done during a class that I taught. Featherfall in a circle with some basic shading. I might re-create this idea in a proper Zentangle tile because I like it that much.

Thanks for dropping in to see what I've been up to this week. I'll see you again next week. :)

ATCs Spring Swap

ATCs is an acronym for "Artist Trading Cards". I joined a swap over on Zentangle Artist Trading Card Swap Facebook group. Here are the tiles that I did:

  And some close-ups:

In other news: Joni and I had a Zentangle workshop yesterday. It was lots of fun creating Mother's Day cards with the residents at Bukit Batok RC Zone 3. You can see some pictures I took of the event by clicking this link.

  Thanks for viewing. ^-^

have a blue (and white, and red, and silver) Christmas

I'm part of this Facebook group that does art swaps frequently. I took part in their Winter Swap 2015 recently. Most artists are from the US of A. I saw that a few people were from Canada. I was the only one from Asia... (Woohoo! Singapore represent!)

We had to make ATCs using only blue, red, silver, and white. It was a little frustrating to not be able to use black ink... But I managed. They were meant to celebrate Christmas but we have until February to mail them out. Mine probably won't reach anyone in time for Christmas, but I didn't want to send them out during the festive season rush as mail gets lost more frequently around that time of year, and the ATCs will have to travel half way round' the world from Singapore to the United States... Shoutout to Carla Szczuka for being my swap buddy. ^-^

Without further ado, here are all the Artist Trading Cards (ATCs) I made for the swap.

I really tried to vary how each ATC looked like. I hope the people in my group will like what they get, and I'm very excited to receive ATCs from them. I've gotten a couple of ATCs in return already. It really brightens my day to receive snail mail. I might just take part in another swap soon.

Leave me comments on which your favourite is. And if you'd like to do a personal swap with me, I'm always happy to oblige. E-mail me at stephanie@everythingis-art.com for that.

rainy days make for grey-ish pictures

Stephanie says: I heard my first Christmas song at a mall near my house yesterday. Christmas is actually my favourite holiday of the year because of all the joy and festivity surrounding it.

I've already sent out hand-made Christmas cards to my family and friends living half way around the world in America and London... And cards that will go to loved ones closer to home will go out probably next week.

Here's one of those cards.

The ATC within the card.

My submission for Diva's Challenge: Hollibaugh. The top one has "Grained" with it, and a coloured pencil background. The bottom one has "Tropicana" and a glitter-y "Tipple" background.
I'm sad that the glitter doesn't show up better. We're having a rainy day here in Singapore, so the pictures aren't the best.... :(

A little feather on a tile.
The tile was white. I messed up too badly and couldn't salvage it. So I decided to paint it black with acrylic paint, then draw something else on it. Works like a charm.

And here's my submission for Joey's Challenge: Yuma.
It's a really elegant tangle.
What have you been up to this week? I can't wait to go through the other submissions for this week's challenges.   ^-^

New ATCs, plus an update on projects I'm working on...

So. Some new Artist Trading Cards (ATCs) I made recently. These are from a new series of ATCs I'll be doing simply called "Black and White". They'll be numbered differently from my other ATCs, running from BW 001 through to BW 020. (So logically, you can deduce there'll be twenty cards within this series.)

Here are the first three for this series:

Other than this, I've taken on a small zentangle commision. That client likes elephant, so that's what I'm drawing. Follow me on Instagram to see the final outcome of that: @havepen_willdraw

I've also been starting multiple personal art projects... I'm getting back into drawing zentangle-inspired art, and have begun a new series called "Illustrated Poems" and I'm really excited for you guys to see the first piece I'm currently working on. ^-^

I've been working on a new coloured pencil piece titled "Flame of Passion". If you remember my last coloured pencil drawing titled "Princess of the Sun"... Well, yeah. "Flame of Passion" will be the second piece in a series of three. Try to guess what kind of bird is in "Flame of Passion".

I've been experimenting with my Inktense pencils and hope to make a review of it soon. Trying to discover new art products to review... Metallic pencils, onyx pencils, colourless blenders, art bars... I think it's gonna' be fun.

Anddd~ I've also been reading art books so I can be able to review them some time in the following weeks. I'll soon be putting up a review of Paul Arden's best selling "It's not how good you are, it's how good you want to be.". I also plan on doing reviews of "Art Inc." by Lisa Congdon, and a video of me flipping through "2014 Sketch Collection" by Kin Jung-Gi once it's out.

So, in short, it's been busy. A good kind of busy, though. :)

Christmas season is starting. It's my favourite holiday of the year. But, gawd, did 2014 fly by so quickly... Stay tuned for a review on Derwent's new Inspire Me sketchbook, and also don't forget to take part in my Derwent Graphik pens giveaway~  ^-^

New ATC

A new Artist Trading Card (ATC). A simple one this time.

"Remember there's no such thing as a small act of kindness. Every act creates a ripple with no logical end.
                                                             -Scott Adams

I just bought lots of new books, so next week I'll probably do a review on at least one of them. :)

  Have a great weekend ahead~

New Artist Trading Cards

New Artist Trading Cards (ATCs). After reading "The Mandala Book" (read my review of that book via this link), I felt inspired and decided to do a pretty mandala.

Also, I recently made some bookmarks. I'm selling them at SGD1 ($1) a piece, excluding mailing fees. They would make great gifts for your family or friends, or as a gift to yourself if you're a bookworm. ^-^

Other than that, I've been busy with a new zentangle drawing with some new art materials that I got. Stay tuned for more reviews, and a giveaway too! ^-^
