  A beautiful sphynx cat with blue painted flowers on its body. I love the details in this– its paws, the gradient of its ears, how the blue of the cats' eyes match the flowers... Nana Williams has also very effectively captured the spirit of the cat in this drawing.

"Sky Jellyfish" by Ted Chin

  A hot air balloon floating under water... A lightbulb octopus... A man meeting a unicorn... Those are some of the works Ted Chin creates. The art work above depicts beautiful jellyfishes floating through the sky. The warm light of the rising sun penetrating them and giving them a wonderful internal glow. I've always loved jellyfishes, partially due to the fact that I'm naturally drawn to water and partially due to how beautiful they look as they move with the motion of the ocean. Ted Chin portrayed that movement perfectly.

"Red" by Igor Piwowarczyk

  I love how  Igor Piwowarczyk depicts the light of the sun in a rich, bold red. I can see some oriental influence within his paintings. I also love how all the details are simplified and that he uses a very restricted palette.

  His style is really diverse and you should definitely check out his other works via his Behance.

  Christopher Marley creates gorgeous art pieces using various beetles, butterflies, shells, and various other animals. I'm mildly concerned as to where he gets his supply of insects and animals from, because I've read that selling dead animal parts to artists has become a very lucrative business in recent years. The demand has been so great that certain species have become endangered or extinct...

Painting of the Day: Dandelion

"Dandelion" by Mona Caron is a mural painted in San Francisco. The artist took progress pictures of her art piece and then made the pictures into a beautiful gif.

Quoted from her website:

"They may be tiny but they break through concrete. They are everywhere and yet unseen. And the more they get stepped on, the stronger they grow back. 

This is a series of paintings of urban weeds, some of them on-site animations, created as a tribute to the resilience of all those beings who no one made room for, were not part of the plan, and yet keep coming back, pushing through and rising up.

I look for weeds in the city streets near a wall I'm about to paint. When I find a particularly heroic one growing through the pavement, I paint it big, at a scale inversely proportional to the attention and regard it gets."

  I love this sketch because it looks like an actual sketch you'd do in your sketchbook. As much as I love clean lines in illustrations, this feels more real... The composition also feels very spontaneous- like a snapshot. A humid, sunny late-afternoon... The light pouring in through the blinds... You take a sip of coffee from your cup and think about your plans for the day, for tomorrow, for the future...

"Zenobia" by Lane Brown

  Explanation of the painting:

  Zenobia was a 3rd-century Queen of the Palmyrene Empire in Syria, who led a famous revolt against the Roman Empire.  She expanded the empire, conquering Egypt and expelling the Roman prefect, Tenagino Probus, who was beheaded after he led an attempt to recapture the territory. She ruled over Egypt until 274, when she was defeated and taken as a hostage to Rome by Emperor Aurelian.  It is said that she was paraded through the streets of Rome, bound by chains of gold.

  There's something mildly unsettling about this gif... The fact that it's a vintage photo, but that the moths are moving. A sort of stitching of the past and present. You half-expect the sitter in the photo to suddenly move to- but she never does. It truly is hauntingly beautiful.
