colours of the week

Let's kick off this week's post with some tiles from Travelling Tangles Project...

Firstly, here's a tile from Janet Shillam-Day sent to me in October 2017. She drew the tangles in white: Abundies, My Swing, and N’zeppel.

I played around with the idea of extending N’zeppel to other areas of the tile, but ended up doing a watercolour wash of blue and then adding Fassett to the area. Shading was added using Derwent’s Coloursoft coloured pencils.

Here’s a 3Z tile from Lin Laidler. I tried to make my Diva Dance sort of weave in and out between the other tangles.

Before....

And here's the after. No matter how many 3Z tiles I complete, I’m always so surprised by how small they really are. They get completed so quickly!

This was a tile from Barb Mavraganis sent to me in APRIL LAST YEAR (!) How quickly time flies. Yesterday morning, it spoke to me and I finally got around to completing it. It's the orange tile in this picture.

I added extra colours using Derwent’s Art Bar, and Coloursoft coloured pencils. The white is from a Uni-Ball Signo Broad pen.

Onwards, here are my tiles for this week's weekly challenges. Diva's challenge for Moebius Syndrome Awareness Day, featuring the colour purple.

And a tile for Joey's challenge, featuring String #165 and the tangle Exeter.

And a couple more tiles, just for fun. I found a new way to use Inktense blocks and Art Bars, so I'll probably be making a video tutorial soon. :)

And to finish the week off, a tile featuring my simplified version of Diva Dance.

Thanks for popping by. I'll see you next week!

drawing outside the tile

If you dropped by last week, then hello again~ Remember I created two watercolour flowers? I completed the pink one this week.

With some Tripoli in pink and purple. I'm not sure whether I should fill the entire paper with Tripolis or leave it as it is... Any thoughts on the matter? Let me know in the comments section below. :)

In other news, I also posted new videos onto my YouTube channel. You can view my channel via this link.

For Diva's challenge, I did a tile in my sketchbook.

Here's how the full page looks like. I'm trying out this new thing where I extend the tangles out of their "tiles", and also try to connect different "tiles" together by entwining their tangles together. It takes some planning, but it's lots of fun.
I've discovered that one of my tangles, Naida, works really well as a leaf.
Step-outs to it via this link.

Here's another page in my sketchbook. It's a W2 labyrinth. The idea is by Staub Korn. I shaded it with three different purple coloured pencils.

And here's my submission for Joey's challenge.

Lastly, here are some tiles I completed for Travelling Tangles.
June Dalde sent in all these pretty things.

And I finished the first tile. I actually really like that fern thing. It reminds me of Verdigogh, but without all the layering (although I'm quite sure if you had the patience, you definitely could layer the fern's leaves too). I added some colours to it with Prismacolor coloured pencils.

And here's another tile... This one was sent from Franciose Lip. Unfortunately, I don't have a "before" picture. She did the pretty pink background, and the Flux on the bottom right; I added the Flux at the top left, and CC in the background.
The tangle "CC" is really starting to grow on me. I've used it in four different works just this week alone... I might have to teach it in one of my classes soon.

As always, thank you for dropping by. Reading comments really brings a smile to my face, and suggestions are always appreciated. Until next week... Keep tangling!

a whirlwind of tangles

So much has happened over the past week~

Easter happened.
This is a tile that Inge and I did together for Travelling Tangles.

I finally finished this tile. You can learn how to draw the gems on this tile. View the video by clicking this link.

I also did a mural! How cool is that?

And here's the finished piece.

I looked extra pretty on this day and lighting was great, so here:
Ethereal fairy princess.

So much happened on Travelling Tangles, too! I've done so many tiles already but still have a couple more to complete. The April Poetry Swap also just closed today. (Happy Poetry Month!) I did three tiles for that swap that I won't show here, but I'll have Draw With Me videos up on my YouTube channel soon.
Here's a tile done by Margaret McKerihan.

And here it is with my additions.

This one was done by Diana Schreur.

And completed by me.
Initially, I had the tangles drawn in black ink but they looked washed out so I went over the lines I had drawn with a white pen.

Sandi Buschpics sent me this bonus tile. (I am ashamed to say I haven't completed the tile she had drawn on... but the colours were just so prettyyy~)

I drew Naida on it. (Step-outs to it right here.)
And the white ink mixed with the colours on the tile so I ended up with this really beautiful ghostly effect.

Here's another Naida tile I did. Knightsbridge with Naida, with Printemps in the background.

And now I have to work on the tiles I received for last month's swap. It was jewel themed. Not going to show any of the tiles I received yet, but here's a beautiful gem on an envelope that Beverly Grotthardt sent me:

Speaking of jewels, sneak preview on a piece I'm working on. Needs shading and an addition of jewels... I'm going to do something experimental with this, and I know it's going to look awesome when I'm done with it.
Look at that groovy Cubine. I'll be teaching you how to draw it in an upcoming video.

Have you downloaded your Tanglelendar for April? ^-^  Here's my completed March page:

And lastly, back to basics.... I'm planning a new Introduction to Zentangle class. (Some teachers call it "FUNdamental Class". I might adopt that name...)

And that has been my insanely creative week or so. I'm still not out of steam yet, so look out for my next post. Thanks for reading. I really appreciate all the kind comments all of you leave me across all of my social medias... They always bring a smile to my face. Till' next week~

Step-Outs to Naida

I love my new tangle pattern, and I couldn't wait to post the step-outs to it even though I haven't used it in too many of my tiles just yet...

I saw the tangle in a video I was watching on YouTube... It was on a curtain. Oh, the places we find tangle patterns....

I worked on the step-outs and decided that I wanted to name it to have some links to water. I had narrowed the list of possible names down to three. I showed the tangle to a friend and asked him which name suited it the best. He said he liked "Naida" a lot because, to him, the pattern looked like the ripples that would appear in the water if a nymph was standing in it. I love that visual image so much!

  Here are its step-outs:

And a video showing how I draw it, in case you're more of a hands-on learner:

Here's a tile I did with Joni Toh.

And here's one I did with Danielle DeRome. This one was done for the Travelling Tangles project.

Here are some pages from my sketchbook:
Some variations of it.

And combining it with other tangles.

I hope you have fun with this new tangle. I'd also love to see what you do with it, so feel free to leave direct links in the comments section of how you have used it in your art works.

Another tangle? Ever thought that it's annoying how "Mooka" doesn't 'close' properly? Here's how I fixed it. It's my version of Mooka.

A-Yolk-Ah

I found the time to get some challenges done this week!

For some reason, I keep referring to "Akoya" as "Ayoka"........ *sighs exasperatedly* I did, however, very much enjoy drawing it.

Tile for Purely Zentangle.

Tiles for this week's Diva Challenge: Shattuck
I'm in love with how this tile turned out.

And here's another. A collaboration between my mum, Joni Toh and I.
She did the beautiful jewel. I did the tangling.

Here's one for Joey's Challenge. I took a whole lot of liberty with the "high five" string...
I swear I was trying to use all three of the tangles she listed; Coil, Pais, and Puf... But then I accidentally drew Yin-Cut instead of Puf.... Oops.

Here's something that one of my students drew in her sketchbook. She was inspired by my wavy Arukas.

Lastly, I've just found a new tangle. I've named it "Naida" and there is meaning to its name. You'll learn all about it in the post I make showing its step-outs. I found that you can do so many things with it. I'm so excited to show you.
Here's "Naida" in a tile. It's the leaf-shaped tangle.

Thanks for reading, and may inspiration always find you. ^-^
