she sells seashells by the seashore

Here's what I've been up to in the past weeks... First off, some tiles from the Travelling Tangles Project.

Let's start with this beautiful circle tile from Elena Greer...

A tiny Bijou from Yvette Campbell.
Shading done using Peerless watercolours. White highlights done using a Uni-Ball Signo Broad pen.

Joey van Oort sent this tile to me for the June 2017 Flower Swap.
I tried to have the tile look like a flower. It was coloured using Peerless watercolours, and the white highlights are from a Uni-Ball Signo Broad pen.

I did some prep-work for my Zentangle classes... Tiny coloured squares made using watercolours.

Which I think inspired what I drew for this week's It's A String Thing #235 (top). My tile for the Diva challenge is below it. We were asked to use our name as a string.

Lastly, here's a pretty seashell I drew using Caran D'ache's Neocolor II. I really like how it turned out and am looking forward to creating more of such painterly drawings using my Neocolors.
In case you were wondering: the ballpoint pen is included in the picture because that's what I used as the outline for the shell.

Thanks for dropping by. I hope you're having a great weekend.

petosky stones

Here's my submission for Joey's weekly challenge:
Featuring Cruffle! There's also Beanz, Bales. Printemps, Tipple, and lots of auras.

  And Diva's challenge, too:
Petoskey stones that look like orange slices one moment, and flowers the next.

Thanks for stopping by! Have a great week ahead.

back-dated post

For some reason, this post was hanging out in my draft box and was never posted. (Oops.) But in any case, I thought you'd like to see the nice things I created.

Flukes and Hamadox. Simple yet so elegant.
If you look closely on the bottom left side of the tile, you'd see that I had tried adding dots using a white pen but ended up not liking it...

  Luv-a and Diva Dance Waltz.

A variation of Shattuck and Florz, with a rainbow background done using Derwent's Coloursoft.

This one is Bales with watercolours.

And another with watercolours featuring Diva Dance Waltz with Paradox.

  Thanks for looking!

warm summers

I hope you're enjoying your summer. Singapore is a tropical country so we don't get seasons. But it seems like I've been using a lot of flower-y tangles lately...

A family friend has a birthday a while ago. And my mum and I *finally* got around to creating a tile together as a present for that friend.
I did the Ando and Tipple. She did everything else.

Here's a throwback to Joey's Challenge #114. Featuring Shattuck, Barber Pole, Cheesecloth, and an "XIV" string...
I did another variation of this challenge, but me being me, I haven't gotten around to completing it just yet. Oopsies. I'll get there, though... Eventually.

Here's my entry for this week's Diva Challenge:
I used some inspiration from this week's Joey's Challenge- Maryhill. See whether you can see the Maryhill fragments in the tile. There's also Afterglo (which is a new tangle to me), Printemps, and some other lines.

Sticking with the black-white-red theme... Here's a tile I completed for the Travelling Tangles Project. This was done with Jo Flaherty.
She did the bottom portion and the small red thingie at the top right corner.
I added Crux and Snail.

To be honest, I never quite like how my Renaissance tiles turn out. This beauty was from Kim Aarts-Bruins. I added Ando and Dervish. But I didn't like how my shading turned out... The grey graphite made things look muddy. The members in the Travelling Tangles group assured me that it looked just fine, so I guess we are our own worst critique.
Kim sent me another tile with Singapore Sling on it. And that tile is white, so I'm sure I'll have a better time with that tile.
Last one. Done with Janet Day.
She did the watercolour background and the blob thing.
I did the rest and added shading with coloured pencils.

Thanks for stopping by to have a look. Till' next week. ^-^

Don't be afraid to sparkle a little brighter.

My Zumba teacher is heavily pregnant now. So she's cutting back on classes. I used to go for her classes every Tuesdays and Saturdays, but now we only have the classes on Saturdays. I didn't want to cut back on my exercise... So I decided that I had to take up another activity. And that activity happened to be indoor rock climbing.

Singapore has a couple of indoor rock climbing areas, which is a shocker to me, considering how small our country actually is. I chose to go to Kallang Mall, right next to the Stadium. Walkable distance from the MRT (our train system)... Accessible... Convenient... Not far from home...

The last time I went there, we had this gorgeous sunset, and I took a few panorama pictures. Here's one:

  Onwards to artsy-fartsy things, though..
I finally got around to shading this tile.
Bales, Yew Dee, and Fassett.

Here's something I did in one of our classes: an Aquafleur flower with Sand Swirl as a background.

Diva's challenge this week was perfect because I'm actually working on some shimmery Zendalas. They're original Zentangle® tiles, with Daler-Rowney shimmery acrylic paints laid over them. It's frustrating to take pictures of shiny or shimmery things because the camera never quite captures their magic. But "why are the tiles so empty?" you ask... Well, that's because they're up for swaps for the Travelling Tangles project.

If you've not heard about the Travelling Tangles project, though....
Travelling Tangles is a collaborative project that aims to show how the Zentangle® method can bring people from around the world closer to one another. The idea is that you will draw on an original Zentangle tile but only finish the drawing half-way. Then you will send it off to another person for him/her to complete it. In exchange, they too will half finish a tile and send it to you for you to complete. Both you and the other person will then each have a tile to keep. You can find its Facebook group by clicking here.

So if you'd like one of these tiles, let me know in the comments section below!

Finally, here's my tanglelendar for February. My theme for that month was circles. I'm very pleased with how it turned out. If you'd like your very own tanglelendar template that you can fill in yourself, you can find them via this link.

Thanks for dropping by for a look. Keep tangling~

You'll See 3,600 Sunsets Each Decade...

Here's my entry for this week's Diva challenge:
Featuring Artoo and Boo-Kee. With Diva Dance in the background.

A tile for fun. Background done with Derwent Inktense on Canson paper.
(view my review of Canson papers/sketchbooks here.)

And some tiles done during classes:
Creative tile featuring "W2".

And here's one featuring Bales, Cadent, and Fassett.

If that sounds like something you'd like to be a part of, join the Travelling Tangles' Facebook group via this link. Here's a tile that I'm sending to Staub Korn:

Lastly, my mum and I decided we need uniforms for when we hold our Zentangle classes. So we bought matching coloured aprons, and she hand-sewed the Zentangle® logo onto them.

Progress picture... I'll post an update once they come out of the laundry.

  Thanks for reading! ^-^

Joey's 100th Challenge

I didn't get time to post my submission for Joey's Challenge last week! Congratulations, Joey, on 100 wonderful weekly Zentangle challenges. ^-^ Here's my tile with the "100" string:
Derwent Inktense on Canson paper.
It was a very *very* loose interpretation of the "100" string.

  Onwards to other tiles!
Fassett and Bales done during a class.

Flux flower with Diva Dance. I really liked this tile.

Notice a trend? Hovering tangles with another tangle for the background. Simple but very effective.
Here's Hamadox and Mumsy. Looking at it on screen, I would've probably added more weight to the outlines of all the Hamadoxes.

And here's a tile Joni and I did for Travelling Tangles:
A Zendala for a change!
Shimmery acrylic as a base.... Joni, of course, did the Diva Dance.

And two tiles that I'm sending to other artists...

And here's a tile Joni did with Debbie New (another CZT based in Singapore) :
Joni did the Flux Flower.

And that's all I have for you for now. Till' next time, keep tangling~
