Hello lovelies~ How has your week been? Half of my household is down with the flu right now. My husband and I are still going strong, thankfully. I've planned for us to go on a date to a board games cafe today. :) Very excited for that.
Here's what I did for this week's Zentangle challenges. Joey wanted us to use the tangle, "Friendship". The Diva wanted us to use auras in our tiles. In the top tile, I used Friendship as a border tangle and added Featherfall. With the bottom tile, I echoed the gemstones of Friendship, and used Tripoli and Diva Dance Waltz.
I really like finding ways to join tiles together in a sketchbook.
For Mother's Day, I created some paper flowers, inspired by the lovely li.la.o on Instagram. It was great fun, and I might just do a video tutorial on the project some time in the future.
Even though I'm currently seven months pregnant, it didn't feel very Mother's Day-y for me... I'm guessing perhaps it'd feel more real next year. I did spend a lovely day with my mum. We went out shopping and for tea.
Done with Peerless watercolours.
If you haven't seen it already, I posted a flip-through video of my Givetangle/Gratitangle 2017 sketchbook...
I'm working on my spiral-bound Fabriano sketchbook. It contains drawings done using ballpoint pen or Neocolor. Here's one page I completed recently. It is a study done of a painting I found in an instructional book. I really like the colours. Looking at it on screen, I would darken the darks, though.
Neocolor II, used without water.
And that is all I have for you this week. Thanks for stopping by.
For this week of Joey's challenge, we had to use the pattern, "Frames". I saw possibilities with it, but felt that I could simplify its step-outs further... Here's the tile that I created for the challenge.
And here's the mini-tutorial on how I drew a simplified version of "Frames", if you'd like to learn.
Other than that, I've been super excited to show you what Debra Huff did to the embedded letter tile I sent her a while back. This was, of course, for the Travelling Tangles Project. Here's my start:
And here's how Debra finished it:
Absolutely stunning, isn't it? There are so many tiny details, I keep finding new things each time I look.
I'm finally back to creating videos.... I have upcoming videos already completed. So if you're not subscribed to my YouTube channel yet, you totally should. And if you live in Singapore, you should totally come attend a weekly Zentangle class with me. May is going to be the last month that I'm teaching as I'll be going for my maternity leave from June onwards. Find out more about my classes, via this link.
As always, thanks for dropping by. I'll see you next week, and until then, keep tangling!
I think I've finally gotten back into my work routine after coming back from my holiday in Bali. This week has been a little busy, so I took an off-day and just stayed home and planned for my Zentangle classes and doing some art.
Here's my entry to Joey's challenge, featuring Merryweather.
And my entry to the Diva challenge:
A quarter slice, in my sketchbook.
And lastly, here's a sequence of tiles that I did as examples for one of my classes.
If you haven't seen it already, I also uploaded a new Draw With Me video on my YouTube channel.
I've started so many pages in my new sketchbook, nut have not completed them yet. Oops. I also should finish my old sketchbook so that I can do a flip-through video of it. Oh, and, I've almost completed a second typography sketchbook. You know... Like the Canson one I did a while back? I should be completing that soon as well. But wish me luck. It's the end of the year and we're busy as can be.
Here's a tile I completed for the Travelling Tangles Project. Sabrina started it. The heart in the centre is thread that's sewn onto the tile. How cool is that? I added Naida (one of my own tangles), and Diva Dance.
And here's my submission for Diva's challenge: Gourdeous, and Joey's challenge: ripped tile.
I also just posted a new video on my YouTube channel.
I also completed all the blank template pages of the Tanglelendar for 2017. Woohoo. Again, you can download copies of the pages via this link, and also join the Tanglelendar Facebook group here.
I go for Zumba classes every Tuesdays and Saturdays. We call ourselves "Zumbabes". And about a week ago, we had a Christmas celebration dinner. During which, we decided to have a Secret Santa. Basically, you'll put all the names of everyone involved into a little container. Then everyone will pick one name. You then have to give a gift to the person whose name you got. I decided to make a custom Zentangle art for the person who I acted as Secret Santa for. Here's what I made for her:
If you haven't seen the time lapse of me making this drawing, here it is:
As requested, here's a tutorial showing how I draw a blue jewel/jem/gem on white paper. I wanted this second tutorial to teach you something different from my first, so in this video, I don't use a pen to add highlight. Instead, I use the white of the paper as a substitute. I'm hoping this will be useful for those of you who don't have a white pen, or don't enjoy using pens with your coloured pencils.
Note that I'm using Derwent's Coloursoft pencils, and so I'm not adding any water (unlike if you use Derwent's Inktense pencils). I don't think there's a need for notes this time around because everything is pretty much written out in the video. I've already planned to make another video with some tips on using dry coloured pencils to create jewels. Many artists use Inktense pencils or watercolours, and I think those of you who are looking to just use dry coloured pencils will find my next video useful.
As always, feel free to ask questions in the comments section below, and also to make requests for what coloured/shaped jewels you'd like to see in my next tutorial. ^-^
My second speed drawing video! These are really fun to do. I'm probably going to make more of such videos. You can't see it in the video, but I was actually feeling quite nervous during filming... I think that's why I missed a few sections. :x Oopsies.
Also, this time I used a song without copyright, so there shouldn't be ads on the video. I'll be using non-copyrighted songs in my future videos.
I'm no stranger to speed videos... But mostly it was just me speeding up videos of me flipping through art books to show you guys. This time, though, I did a speed drawing video.
The set up was a little awkward... Also, I used a lap desk-thingy, and that made the video a little shaky in certain parts of the video. But I really do like how the video turned out. ^-^ Maybe, into the future, I'll do more complex works, or add my voice, or do videos of me talking to the camera about various topics. We'll see where it goes. For now, though, enjoy my efforts.
Anddd~ I updated my website a while ago. If you're interested to see it, you can click on this link. Also, my order from Visualtroop arrived yesterday, so expect a review about them soon. Plus, giveaway time draws near. *smileyface* Have a great week ahead~
